| Kranj house in former times The current Kranj house at the address Tavčarjeva 22 and Glavni trg 2, previously and also Spodnji trg 172 and Mesto No. 191 was built in the 16th century. During baroque and in the 19th century the house was built a superstructure. The interior features preserved ridge renaissance vaults, while the exterior shows a calm design of the late baroque. Residents of Kranj used to know the Kranj house as Hayne or Mišič House – with regrad to their owners.
One of the most famous owners of the house was Anton Hayne. He was born on 14th june 1761 in Kranj, where he married Terezija Skupin in 1785. They soon moved to what is today known as Kranj House and stayed there till 1832. He studied at the University of Vienna and became Master of Surgery and Obstetrics, and reportedly also passed an exam in Veterinary medicine. Historians express doubts about the latter fact, yet his son Anton Hayne cetrainly was a veterinary surgeon and landscape painter. His most famous work is a Kranj veduta (source: Exhibition catalogue, Dr Janez Bleiweis and his time, Gorenjska Museum Kranj, 1996).
